Trail names, blazes, lengths, difficulty, trailheads and descriptions are quoted from the New Jersey DEP State Park Service brochure Trails of Stokes State Forest (edition 9/23). The official brochure and forest map is available here as a PDF. The brochure text describes 21 trails; Cemetery Trail appears on its map only, with no description. Its map and text disagree on two lengths — Ladder (0.4 mi on the map, 0.5 in the text) and Shay (1.5 vs 1.0) — the text is used here, with the map figure noted on those trails.

Climb figures are estimates, not official. The brochure publishes no elevation data. These are approximations from the map’s 100-ft contours (the forest runs roughly 250 ft to 1,653 ft at Sunrise Mountain) read against each trail’s own description of its terrain. Treat them as a rough sense of effort, not a measurement. For a time estimate the brochure offers Naismith’s Rule: an hour per three miles, plus an hour per 2,000 ft of climb.

Trail lines, forest boundary and water on the map are from OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL), matched by name to the brochure’s trails.
